Week 5
During Week 5 (September 6-9), each grade is learning how to properly evaluate and critique live performances this week using a weekly listening journal. The performance that 6th and 7th grade are critiquing this week is linked below. The song is called "Witness" and it is performed by the 2015 TN All-State Honor Choir. If you would like to watch the performance, feel free to - we will do approximately one listening journal per week throughout the semester to grow our critiquing skills and understand more about how to perform well in concerts ourselves!
These are the questions we will answer each time we complete a Listening Journal:
1. What did you hear in this performance?
2. Describe the music in this performance.
3. Describe the singers in this performance.
4. What was the songwriter or composer’s purpose when he or she wrote this song?
5. What do you like about this song?
6. What do you not like about this song?
7. Score this performance and describe what made you score this way.
8. Describe one area of reinforcement (something done well) for this choir.
9. Describe one area of improvement (something that can be better) for this choir.
Week 6
During the end of Week 5 and into Week 6 (September 12-16), we are learning about vocal range, voice parts, and the purpose of the treble and bass clefs and how they relate to our voices. This is the second half of Unit 1: Part B. The slides from this PowerPoint are below. Please use them to help you study important terms and ideas from Part B.
Week 7
During Week 7 (September 19-23), we are learning music! Yay! Below, I will post rehearsal tracks and links to listen to the songs so you can be learning and listening to them at home. I will post individual parts according to voice (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass, as well as parts for solos and small groups. Please check back here at the end of the week to see the full list of listening tracks.
